It was definitely shepherd’s pie time. I realized it’s been too long since we last had it. It was time to make one!
We began by sauteing onions and garlic on our trusty mighty mini camp oven cooker. Their rich aromas filled the area with a mouth watering smell. We browned the mince slowly. Then, we added a careful blend of herbs and spices to elevate the flavor profile. This savory base was complemented with hearty vegetables like carrots, peas, and tomatoes. This allowed them to soak up the fragrant aromatics. We simmered the mixture. The vegetables softened. The liquid reduced into a smooth, rich sauce that clings perfectly to the filling. The result was a deeply savoury and aromatic filling. It was ready to be topped with creamy mashed potatoes for ultimate Shepherd’s Pie time.
We created a delicious mash with a flavourful twist! The combination of potato and sweet potato provides a nice balance of creaminess and natural sweetness. Chipotle shredded cheese elevates the dish with a smoky, spicy flavour. It also gives it that satisfying golden, cheesy crust. The kick from the chipotle cheese adds depth and a touch of attitude, to complement the natural sweetness of the sweet potato blend beautifully.
The result? Shepherd’s Pie time with real value. Not only was it a delicious dinner, but it also provided enough leftovers for two more lunches—a true value meal!
